ArcGIS Online & Story Maps

This one-day training introduces students to the basics of creating engaging and interactive maps online using free tools from Esri's ArcGIS Online website. For communities, researchers, and outreach educators, a web map is a powerful tool for soliciting input, sharing information, and engaging stakeholders. This two-part workshop will introduce you to ArcGIS Online in the morning, and story maps, Esri's slick format for sharing maps AND descriptive text and media, in the afternoon.

The workshop consists of a series of brief lectures followed by extensive hands-on exercises with “over the shoulder” advice and assistance from the teaching team.

Topics covered will include:

  • The basics of ArcGIS Online
  • Creating custom maps in the ArcGIS Map Viewer
  • Adding content from outside sources
  • Publishing maps and creating groups on ArcGIS Online
  • Sharing and embedding web maps on your website
  • Story map overview, galleries & exploration
  • Build your own story map journal
  • Build your own map tour
  • Tips & tricks and best practices

Registration Details

Please note: This course is intended for those who work with geographic data, but requires only a modest level of technical skill. No prior GIS knowledge is necessary!

Class size is limited to 16 students. Please note the snow date for our winter workshops!

The course fee is $150. Class is scheduled to begin at 9 AM and end by 4:30 PM. Please arrive on time.
