Remote Sensing of Water

Sensors on board remote sensing platforms (satellite or aircraft) detect reflected and/or emitted electromagnetic energy from the earth's surface. Typical energy detected by these sensors include visible (blue, green, red), near-infrared, shortwave-infrared and thermal energy. Features on the earth's surface will reflect and/or emit energy differently. By understanding the interaction of electromagnetic energy with features on the earth's surface, we are able to identify features in remote sensing imagery.
